Sailor Moon Art of Fukano Youichi

Senshi no Tsue by Fukano YouichiWhen fans of Sailor Moon think of art work from the anime, they think of the names: Tadano Kazuko, Hasegawa Shinya, or Ikuko Itoh. Many fans are familiar with the art work of Fukano Youichi but don’t realize it. This brilliant man illustrated many images of Sailor Moon which ended up on CD covers, toy boxes, Sera Myu pamphlets, and more. His illustrations were everywhere but many fans didn’t know they were drawn by him.

Fukano Youichi is very active in the recent years on Twitter under the username of @hoypoykoy. He has also been active in releasing many new artworks in the Sailor Moon doujinshi community, these last three years. Though they were released in extremely limited numbers and are hard to find, I took the time to hunt down each doujinshi piece. Not only do you get to see Fukano Youichi’s version of Eternal Sailor Moon (Fukano Moon), but also his new art style for the Outer Senshi.

"Senshi no Tsue" by Fukano Youichi

"Senshi no Tsue" is a doujinshi book published by Fukano Youichi in early 2012 at the Wonder Parlour Cafe in Japan. It was extremely limited in numbers and is very hard to find. In the book, Fukano Youichi discusses his work on Sailor Moon during the 90′s. He also drew little quick sketches of the senshi in maid outfits. I think "Senshi no Tsue" is a book Sailor Moon fans should definitely hire Miss Dream to translate. If anyone starts raising funds to do so, please contact me: I’ll throw in $20. Enjoy the scans everyone!

“Final Sailor” by Tadano Kazuko

Final Sailor by Tadano KazukoHello! Just scanned in "Final Sailor," an awesome genga art book, published by Tadano Kazuko. This lovely lady was a character designer and animation director for Sailor Moon Season 1 and Season 2. She was a very important part of Sailor Moon’s anime production, so its pretty damn cool that Tadano Kazuko decided to self-publish a genga art book, featuring her work on the show. This genga book presents many concepts that were used and not used in the series. She even drew a few exclusive images of the Sailor Senshi, just for the publication of "Final Sailor." Her updated drawing style on the Sailor Senshi is definitely one of the best things about this doujinshi. Please enjoy the scans!

Happy Birthday Hino Rei

Official Sailor Mars Fan BookThis year for Sailor Mars’ birthday, I scanned in her special character guide, Nakayoshi Official Hino Rei Fan Book, published by Kodansha in 1996. The book is filled with lovely and rare images of the Fire Senshi, and provides an extensive look into her character. It covers the adventures of Sailor Mars from Season One through Season Three of Sailor Moon.

I find it particularly amusing that the book mentions the "love triangle" between Hino Rei, Kumada Yuuichirou, and Tenoh Haruka. The special images the periodical includes of Hino Rei/Sailor Mars are especially beautiful, and I took the time to connect the two-page spreads, so people can use those images as wallpapers. There is also an interview with Hino Rei’s voice actress, Tomizawa Michie, at the very end. This book is a "must-have" for all Sailor Mars fans. I scanned in the original Japanese version of the book, but it was also published in English by the company TokyoPop. Sold on Ebay and Amazon.

Happy Birthday Book Vol. 1PALE LILAC & EASY

Included in this Sailor Mars update, is a short doujinshi by Pale Lilac and Easy, titled Happy Birthday Rei Hino (B.D. Book Vol. 1). Pale Lilac (Ohmori Madoka) and Easy (Izumi Shou) are relatively famous among Sailor Moon doujinshi collectors. Ohmori Madoka and Izumi Shou were both production assistants of Takeuchi Naoko, when she was working on the Sailor Moon manga. In fact, both ladies were featured in the Sailor Moon Infinity Artbook (Look here and here).

Pale Lilac is the more popular choice among the two ladies, because her art style is very similar to Takeuchi Naoko’s. Many fans consider doujinshi by Pale Lilac to be an extension of the original Sailor Moon manga due to the physical similarities. Unfortunately, Pale Lilac’s works are very hard to find and for this reason, Sailor Moon doujinshi by her are considered prized items for even non-doujinshi collectors.

Happy birthday to Hino Rei and please enjoy the scans, everyone!

Lunatic Soldier: Eien no Chikai

Lunatic Soldier Eien no Chikai

One of my most prized Sailor Moon possessions is my copy of Lunatic Soldier: Eien no Chikai. The book was published by the animators who worked on Sailor Moon, under the name Hyper Graphicers. Therefore, it is considered to be a doujinshi, which means self-publication. Similar to the book Selenity’s The Act of Animations, this volume displays animation sketches from the anime. What makes Lunatic Soldier special is that it places heavy emphasis on Episode 200, the series finale.

My Sailor Moon Doujinshi Collection

Hello hello! I decided to put together a list of all the Sailor Moon doujinshi I own onto the site. This is to help those, who are looking for specific doujinshi titles, but can’t find it. In which case, they can request for scans. I am doing this because specific doujinshi titles are extremely hard to find. And if I have something that I can get online for someone, then well… That’s great! This would also make it simpler for me to keep track of what I already have, thereby making it easier to buy and trade. ^_^

I am currently looking for doujinshi by Tsuki Kioku, Pale Lilac, Fragrant Olive, Hino-Tama, Studio Canopus, Dolce, Replicant, LEGO!, Mad Tea Party, and Hikami Rui. So if you have something I do not have, and don’t mind selling to me, please contact me at sano.izumi@gmail.com. If I have the funds available to me, and the price is reasonable, I will definitely buy it from you! Thank you!
(This list will be updated regularly.)
