Sailor Moon Art of Fukano Youichi

Monday, February 2nd, 2015

Senshi no Tsue by Fukano YouichiWhen fans of Sailor Moon think of art work from the anime, they think of the names: Tadano Kazuko, Hasegawa Shinya, or Ikuko Itoh. Many fans are familiar with the art work of Fukano Youichi but don’t realize it. This brilliant man illustrated many images of Sailor Moon which ended up on CD covers, toy boxes, Sera Myu pamphlets, and more. His illustrations were everywhere but many fans didn’t know they were drawn by him.

Fukano Youichi is very active in the recent years on Twitter under the username of @hoypoykoy. He has also been active in releasing many new artworks in the Sailor Moon doujinshi community, these last three years. Though they were released in extremely limited numbers and are hard to find, I took the time to hunt down each doujinshi piece. Not only do you get to see Fukano Youichi’s version of Eternal Sailor Moon (Fukano Moon), but also his new art style for the Outer Senshi.

"Senshi no Tsue" by Fukano Youichi

"Senshi no Tsue" is a doujinshi book published by Fukano Youichi in early 2012 at the Wonder Parlour Cafe in Japan. It was extremely limited in numbers and is very hard to find. In the book, Fukano Youichi discusses his work on Sailor Moon during the 90′s. He also drew little quick sketches of the senshi in maid outfits. I think "Senshi no Tsue" is a book Sailor Moon fans should definitely hire Miss Dream to translate. If anyone starts raising funds to do so, please contact me: I’ll throw in $20. Enjoy the scans everyone!

“Secret” Sailor Moon Books

Sailor Moon SuperS Himitsu AlbumBeing a fan of Sailor Moon for over 20 years now, I feel like I’ve seen almost all the merchandise that came from the anime and manga. However, I was fairly surprised to learn three years ago, that Sailor Moon had some "secret" books that wasn’t really common knowledge. The books I’m referring to, are the "himitsu" books published by Kodansha for the Sailor Moon anime. Not many people know about these two books, but they are mass produced and aren’t really that rare.

"Himitsu" means secret, so its definitely amusing that not many fans know about these two books’ existance. Here is the reason why so few people know about these volumes: It is common knowledge to fans that Kodansha published short hard-cover childrens’ books during Sailor Moon’s run on TV. These hard-cover books are made of board, and have no more than a few pages summarizing the storyline of the anime. Some fans collect these hard-cover books, but most fans do not because they are made to be simplified for pre-school-aged kids.

“Final Sailor” by Tadano Kazuko

Final Sailor by Tadano KazukoHello! Just scanned in "Final Sailor," an awesome genga art book, published by Tadano Kazuko. This lovely lady was a character designer and animation director for Sailor Moon Season 1 and Season 2. She was a very important part of Sailor Moon’s anime production, so its pretty damn cool that Tadano Kazuko decided to self-publish a genga art book, featuring her work on the show. This genga book presents many concepts that were used and not used in the series. She even drew a few exclusive images of the Sailor Senshi, just for the publication of "Final Sailor." Her updated drawing style on the Sailor Senshi is definitely one of the best things about this doujinshi. Please enjoy the scans!

Small Soldier Unmei no Deai

Finally scanned in and uploaded is the douga art book Small Soldier: Unmei no Deai from the doujinshi group Hyper Graphicers. Like previous books that I scanned in from Hyper Graphicers, this is a doujinshi (self-published) book from the animators of Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon. It features douga and genga art work from the Sailor Moon anime. This is Volume 2 out of the four-book collection, and was published in May 1996. Unlike it’s subsequent releases (Lunatic Soldier and Selenity’s Moon), this book is MUCH harder to find and is worth more in monetary value.

Sailor Moon La Reconquista Program BookSailor Moon La Reconquista Program

I finally got my hands on a copy of the Sailor Moon "La Reconquista" Program Book and scanned it in. La Reconquista is the Sailor Moon musical for 2013, and features an all-female cast. The program (pamphlet) book for the musical features full-colored high-quality images of the cast members in costume, and even has three new Sailor Moon manga images from the goddess, Takeuchi Naoko. Please enjoy the scans!

Complete Sailor Moon 3″ Inch CD Singles

Wednesday, May 1st, 2013

YAY! I finally finished collecting all the Sailor Moon 3″ inch CD singles. I don’t know why, but I have always thought the 3″ inch CDs to be really cute looking. Plus, there are images printed on many of them, that are exclusive to only the CD singles. I went ahead and scanned them all in. There are only thirty-three singles to collect, and they aren’t that expensive (similar to Sailor Moon trading card prices). Rakuten sell these for pretty cheap. So it was relatively easy to finish this collection, which is a nice feeling. Enjoy the scans everyone!
