“Secret” Sailor Moon Books

Monday, April 14th, 2014

Sailor Moon SuperS Himitsu AlbumBeing a fan of Sailor Moon for over 20 years now, I feel like I’ve seen almost all the merchandise that came from the anime and manga. However, I was fairly surprised to learn three years ago, that Sailor Moon had some "secret" books that wasn’t really common knowledge. The books I’m referring to, are the "himitsu" books published by Kodansha for the Sailor Moon anime. Not many people know about these two books, but they are mass produced and aren’t really that rare.

"Himitsu" means secret, so its definitely amusing that not many fans know about these two books’ existance. Here is the reason why so few people know about these volumes: It is common knowledge to fans that Kodansha published short hard-cover childrens’ books during Sailor Moon’s run on TV. These hard-cover books are made of board, and have no more than a few pages summarizing the storyline of the anime. Some fans collect these hard-cover books, but most fans do not because they are made to be simplified for pre-school-aged kids.

Happy Birthday Hino Rei

Wednesday, April 17th, 2013

Official Sailor Mars Fan BookThis year for Sailor Mars’ birthday, I scanned in her special character guide, Nakayoshi Official Hino Rei Fan Book, published by Kodansha in 1996. The book is filled with lovely and rare images of the Fire Senshi, and provides an extensive look into her character. It covers the adventures of Sailor Mars from Season One through Season Three of Sailor Moon.

I find it particularly amusing that the book mentions the "love triangle" between Hino Rei, Kumada Yuuichirou, and Tenoh Haruka. The special images the periodical includes of Hino Rei/Sailor Mars are especially beautiful, and I took the time to connect the two-page spreads, so people can use those images as wallpapers. There is also an interview with Hino Rei’s voice actress, Tomizawa Michie, at the very end. This book is a "must-have" for all Sailor Mars fans. I scanned in the original Japanese version of the book, but it was also published in English by the company TokyoPop. Sold on Ebay and Amazon.

Happy Birthday Book Vol. 1PALE LILAC & EASY

Included in this Sailor Mars update, is a short doujinshi by Pale Lilac and Easy, titled Happy Birthday Rei Hino (B.D. Book Vol. 1). Pale Lilac (Ohmori Madoka) and Easy (Izumi Shou) are relatively famous among Sailor Moon doujinshi collectors. Ohmori Madoka and Izumi Shou were both production assistants of Takeuchi Naoko, when she was working on the Sailor Moon manga. In fact, both ladies were featured in the Sailor Moon Infinity Artbook (Look here and here).

Pale Lilac is the more popular choice among the two ladies, because her art style is very similar to Takeuchi Naoko’s. Many fans consider doujinshi by Pale Lilac to be an extension of the original Sailor Moon manga due to the physical similarities. Unfortunately, Pale Lilac’s works are very hard to find and for this reason, Sailor Moon doujinshi by her are considered prized items for even non-doujinshi collectors.

Happy birthday to Hino Rei and please enjoy the scans, everyone!

Sailor Moon TV Magazine Deluxe Book

Wednesday, March 20th, 2013

Sailor Moon TV Magazine DeluxeHello hello! I finally scanned in the Sailor Moon TV Magazine Deluxe book for Season One of the anime, published by Kodansha. Which means that all Sailor Moon TV Magazine Deluxe anime books have now been scanned in and are available in the Gallery.

I really enjoyed scanning in this book because there are many more pictures of Tuxedo Kamen and Osaka Naru. It reminded me that these two characters had more important roles in Season One, than in later seasons. Also, Tuxedo Kamen looked the dreamiest in here and there are many images of the mysterious Shitennou too.

Here are the download links for all the Sailor Moon TV Magazine Deluxe anime books. Some of the books are hosted on MEGA and can only be downloaded using the GOOGLE CHROME browser, without having to install MEGA’s extention. If you use other browsers (like Firefox), than you may have to install MEGA’s extention, which doesn’t really do anything to your browser. I say this because MEGA downloads are really fast, and I may use them more often in the future. Anyhow, enjoy!

Sailor Moon Manga Artbook Vol. 4

Friday, March 1st, 2013

Sailor Moon Manga Artbook Vol. 4Good day everyone! I finally made myself sit down and scan in Sailor Moon Manga Artbook Volume 4 by the great and wonderful Takeuchi Naoko. This book covers the arc of Sailor Moon SuperS and contains some of Takeuchi Naoko’s best illustrations. It features art work of the characters: Helios / Pegasus, Amazoness Quartet, Tuxedo Kamen, and the Sailor Senshi. This time, I spent extra hours editing the scans, to connect artwork that was spread across two pages. I thought the results looked pretty good too. (Tried my best with the clone tool in Photoshop.)

Sailor Moon 2002 CalendarSailor Moon 2001.11—2002 Calendar

Also scanned in, is the Sailor Moon 2001.11—2002 Calendar. This item should’ve been scanned in sooner, because the dates in the year 2002 actually coordinates with 2013. So you can actually print out the pages and use it as this year’s calendar. Most of the images in this version, was featured in the 1998 Sailor Moon (poster sized) wall calendar, as well. Enjoy the scans everyone!

Sailor Moon R TV Magazine Deluxe Book

Sunday, January 13th, 2013

Sailor Moon R TV Magazine Deluxe Volume 1Happy New Year everyone! Starting this year off with scans of Kodansha’s Sailor Moon R TV Magazine Deluxe Volume 1 book. The periodical is full of iconic pictures from the Sailor Moon series, and even have a few images that aren’t commonly seen on the internet. It covers the end of Sailor Moon Season One and the first arc of Sailor Moon Season Two, which introduces the character of Ali, En, and the mysterious Tsuki-Kage no Knight. It briefly introduces the Black Moon Clan, before the book ends. After this volume, I have one more Kodansha Magazine Deluxe to scan!

Moonlight Legend by Studio Canopus"Moonlight Legend" by Studio Canopus

I also scanned in a rather rare doujinshi by the popular circle, Studio Canopus. Its called "Moonlight Legend" and is actually about Sailor Moon Musical, rather than Haruka & Michiru; which is what Studio Canopus is famous for. "Moonlight Legend" is an anthology, but I only scanned in the few short plots that was done by Yamada Mario. Content left unscanned were written scripts by other artists. Anyhow, enjoy the update everyone!
